Studio program
In October 2013, the Queens Museum will complete an expansion doubling the size of the museum. Included in the project is the addition of eight new studios in the museum’s north wing. Artists throughout the world are invited to apply for a subsidized studio at the museum, available for one year, with a possible extension for a second year.

In designating permanent real estate to the long-term development of new work on-site, as well as to creating a community of artists, the Queens Museum aims to promote artists’ creative process and professional development.

Artists will have 24-hour access to their studios and the adjacent lounge area. The program will offer workspace and visibility, with open studios scheduled to coincide with exhibition openings at the Queens Museum. The new studio wing will also include a Public Art Studio with a 40-foot wall visible by the public from a second-floor mezzanine, which will be programmed independently.

Selection: Guest curator Regine Basha will launch the studio program’s first year and chair the selection process. The jury will include Queens Museum senior program staff, as well as artist Daniel Bozhkov, and Anthony Huberman, Director of The Artist Institute.

Restrictions: Because the studios are within the museum, there can be no use of toxic and combustible materials.

Key dates: May 21: application deadline
June 7: artists informed
August 1: studios available for move-in

Studio monthly fees:
550 sq ft studio (five available) = 350 USD/month
350 sq ft studio (two available) = 225 USD/month
200 sq ft (one available) = 175 USD/month
Fees go towards studio program administrative costs and upkeep.
