Prestigious multimedia artist and educator will begin position on August 1.
Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) announces the selection of internationally-acclaimed multimedia artist and longtime educator Luca Buvoli as the new director of Mount Royal School of Art. Buvoli will replace the multidisciplinary M.F.A. program’s director of the last 10 years Frances Barth, who has announced her retirement.
The Mount Royal School of Art offers a rigorous, multi-disciplinary program in which students focus their explorations within a specific medium or embrace a wide array of disciplines and media as they engage in intensive studio practice.
“I am excited that I will be directing such a dynamic multidisciplinary program at MICA,” Buvoli said. “I feel that my multi-faceted approach to art production and exhibition, as well as to teaching and mentoring, is very much in tune with what has been shaped at the Mount Royal School of Art. The unique vision of this program offers an incredible opportunity to foster the students’ practice and development.”
As an artist, Buvoli has exhibited his pieces throughout the United States and internationally, including work in the 2007 Venice Biennale; a large outdoor project and limited edition sculpture at the Deutsche Guggenheim Museum in Berlin in 2010; and a solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai in Seoul, Korea this past fall.
