Chloé Quenum’s work deals with the appearance of the same object in multiple forms, in the various stases of its metabolism, seemingly identical but always different. Shaped by the diverse contexts of their public presentation, instructed by the elements or works associated with them, Chloé Quenum’s pieces remind us of the way perceptions can shift and be renewed by the specific stakes of an exhibition. Her work also deals with the memory of objects, their persistence in the physical world and in our minds, as well as the mirror relationship they induce in the viewer. While her pieces can imprint themselves lastingly in the memory of the public, they also bear the trace of their presentation in the spaces where they have been displayed.
Chloé Quenum’s exhibition is part of the program of Le Belvédère, curated by Kathy Alliou:
“In this new program, which combines varied, complementary, plurivocal artistic viewpoints through a spectrum of exhibitions bringing together historical works with works by living artists, whether confirmed or emergent, the exhibitions of Le Belvédère’s will support very young artists, either recently graduated or students of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Through this program, we assert our role as lookouts and relays for young artists who are working today to produce the history of tomorrow; who invent their spaces, reflect on new forms; who activate, transform, metabolize the forms created by their predecessors with no allegiance to authority. Le Belvédère is dedicated to the youngest artists, going through a zone of uncertain activity, that of the immediate ‘post-diploma’ aftermath.”

The Angel of History until July 7, 2013
The three exhibitions of Le Belvédère tie in with the theme of The Angel of History exhibition, which inaugurates the Palais des Beaux-Arts. The exhibition rooms of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, renovated and redesigned, now host a new program concept that reflects the school’s identity by confronting ancient and contemporary works, emerging artists with the rereading of the history of recent art.
The “Palais des Beaux-arts” project illustrates the new direction Nicolas Bourriaud—director of the school, intends to give to the Beaux-arts de Paris: putting art and artists at the heart of teaching.
The first exhibition of this new program, The Angel of History, explores the themes of ruins and debris in art.
