News from Nowhere is both a stirring exhibition and an open platform for investigation of the world as it is today and as it could be imagined in the future. For this exceptional co-generative work, Korean artists Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho assembled a remarkable group of thinkers and practitioners to explore the meaning, social function, and the role of the arts in contemporary times. Initially presented last year at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany, News from Nowhere continues to evolve with the Chicago Laboratory as its next, expanded iteration, which is also the first US presentation of this ongoing work. The exhibition includes two films by Moon and Jeon—El Fin del Mundo and Avyakta—as well as contributions by six of the artists’ collaborators: architect Toyo Ito, fashion designers Kuho Jung and Kosuke Tsumura, mime Yu Jin Gyu, and design firms MVRDV and takram design engineering. As a laboratory, the exhibition becomes a site of research and platform for lectures, workshops, performances, and events that enable discourses to unfold.
The expanded Chicago Laboratory includes public lectures by the artists and their collaborators, a film festival, a forum on the future of beauty, and artist-led student workshops.

About the Sullivan Galleries
The Sullivan Galleries of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago are located in Louis Sullivan’s historic masterpiece, the Carson Pirie Scott & Co. building. Exhibitions and public programs feature the work of both acclaimed artists and those new on the scene who work collaboratively with the SAIC community to explore how art functions within society today. As the public arm of SAIC’s Department of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies, Sullivan Galleries seek to generate new research around issues, ideas, and professional practices in art and design, while stimulating dialogue among the wider Chicago arts community.
