California College of the Arts is pleased to announce an exhibition celebrating the 15th anniversary of the annual Ronald and Anita Wornick Award. It will be on view October 7–19, 2013 in the Campus Center Galleries on CCA’s San Francisco campus. The show is open daily, 10am–7:30pm, with a public reception on Tuesday, October 15, 5:30–7pm (RSVP for the reception to [email protected] or T +1 510 594 3604). All events are free and open to the public.

The annual Ronald and Anita Wornick Award highlights the best and brightest students in CCA’s Furniture Program. The scholarship is a wonderful celebration of both student achievement and the community of support that surrounds the program. The featured work portrays the dedication, craftsmanship, and values that are embedded in our curriculum and collegewide.

The 2013 winners are Asa Hillis and Hannah Quinn:

Asa Hillis (Furniture 2015) is interested in creating one-off original pieces with an emphasis on craftsmanship. In 2012 he interned with Garry Knox Bennett, a CCA alumnus and renowned maker in the Bay Area. Hillis says, “Since being selected as a Wornick Award recipient, my aspiration of becoming a furniture maker is more tangible than ever. My goal is to open a custom furniture shop, Twin Design Furniture, with my twin brother.”

Hannah Quinn (Furniture 2014) has had many great experiences in furniture design thus far, from being a student artist in residence at Recology (aka the San Francisco dump) to bringing a 350-pound chair she designed to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York. Her long-term plan, she says, ” is to start a studio of my own while working for and continuing to learn from the many talented individuals in the Bay Area.”

The curator of this year’s Wornick Award exhibition is Barbara Holmes, interim chair of the Furniture Program. The judges for this year’s award were Bob Wilms and Steven Miller of the NWBLK, a combination gallery, retail store, and studio collective in San Francisco.

This special 15-year retrospective exhibition also features the work of selected past Wornick Award recipients, including Carly Borman (2011), Mateo Hao (2013), Shawn Hibmacronan (2009), Peter L’Abbe (2012), Christopher Loomis (2007), Yvonne Mouser (2006), Scott Oliver (2005), Andrew Perkins (2011), and Maiko Sugano (2004).
