The three-semester post-professional MAA degree enables students to pursue advanced studies in theory, applied research and special topics in design practice. Specific areas of concentration are pursued through course work and independent study and may include the philosophy and history of design, digital technologies and visualization, mapping, technology, sustainability, neuroscience and architecture, furniture and industrial design, advanced topics in design, and architectural and urban studies in Genoa and Miami. These concentration areas are supported by focused topics in the architecture curriculum and allow students to pursue advanced research combining cross-disciplinary course work with faculty areas of specialization.
Faculty members include Alfredo Andia, Marilys Nepomechie, Eric Goldemberg, Shahin Vassigh, Malik Benjamin, Jaime Canavés, Winifred E Newman (director), Nick Gelpi, Eric Peterson, Gray Read, Matthew Rice, David Rifkind, Camilo Rosales, Thomas Spiegelhalter, Claudia Busch, Jason Chandler, Nikolay Nedev, Adam Drisin, and John Stuart.
Situated in a major metropolitan area, the program offers access to The Wolfsonian-FIU collection, the Patricia & Philip Frost Art Museum, the FIU College of Engineering and Computing, and the SOA Environmental Technology Lab. Students in the program are encouraged to take advantage of local and regional resources, including those in Latin America and abroad.
