The New York School of Interior Design’s (NYSID) undergraduate and graduate programs are ranked among the best in the nation, according to a new survey of practitioners by DesignIntelligence (DI). DI’s rankings, which are based on companies’ perceptions of how well colleges prepare their graduates for professional experience, ranked NYSID’s graduate program as number 5 in the nation, and the undergraduate program number 7 in the nation in 2014.

“We are honored to be cited by our industry in the top 10 schools in the nation for interior design,” said NYSID PresidentDavid Sprouls. “The designation reflects the work of our exemplary students, the strength of our curriculum and faculty, and the College’s ability to thrive and adapt to a changing profession and give our students the skills they need to succeed.”

In the regional rankings, NYSID continued its strong showing—both the undergraduate and graduate programs were ranked number 4 in the East Coast region. In an interior design skills assessment, NYSID ranked number 3 in Communication and number 4 in Cross-Disciplinary Teamwork. These skills are most notable, as 74 percent of those surveyed ranked “personality and attitude as the most important skills to have entering the workforce.”

The survey of design professionals was published in its November/December issue part of DesignIntelligence’s 2014 “America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools,” which it has published annually since 2000. DI is a publication of the Design Futures Council (DFC), a global interdisciplinary network of design community professionals, including leaders of architecture and design firms, product designers and manufacturers, construction and service providers.

About NYSID
Founded in 1916, the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is a private, not-for-profit college devoted exclusively to interior design education and related disciplines. NYSID’s guiding principle is that the interior environment is a fundamental element of human welfare and the College is committed to actively improving the quality of life for all segments of humanity. This ideal is put into practice by a dedicated faculty of well-known designers, architects, art historians, and authorities in the field who guide more than 700 full- and part-time students.

NYSID offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate programs in the field of interior design, design history and theory, sustainable design, interior lighting design, and healthcare interior design. A wide range of classes are also offered through our Institute for Continuing and Professional Studies. The College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD); is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; and NYSID’s BFA and MFA-1 programs are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).
