In the spirit of experimentation that made the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella mythical in the sixties, the Programa de Artistas of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Buenos Aires is a one-year program that provides visual artists, critics, and curators with an intensive experience in which to reflect on and produce contemporary art.
The sixth edition of the program has three fundamental characteristics.
- Though most of the participants in the program are artists, it also includes a small number of young curators and/or art critics. The aim of this coexistence is to provide a unique opportunity for exchange whereby the different practices and positions pivotal to the arts are explored critically in the framework of an intense and shared experience of discussion and production.
- The program is designed to bring together an array of practices and knowledges relevant to contemporary art. It includes a space geared to reflection on the work of each participant, courses for experimentation in different production methodologies, and a series of theoretical seminars on various topics pertinent to current artistic production in a broader cultural and social context. In 2014, the seminars will explore the following topics: methodologies for artistic research, professionalism and amateurism, counterculture and enlightenment, Latin American geopolitics, and others.
- The program’s faculty includes outstanding local and international professors. Among others, Jorge Macchi, Marcelo Pombo, Karina Peisajovich, Graciela Speranza, Lars Bang Larsen, and Marti Manen.
Recent visiting professors include Carlos Amorales, Renata Lucas, Paulo Herkenhoff, Santiago Sierra, Sofía Hernandez Chong Cuy, Sergio Muñoz Sarmiento, Chus Martínez, and Cuauhtémoc Medina, among others.
