Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR), the first residency in the United States exclusively for artists identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, is now accepting applications for its prestigious and internationally recognized summer program. LGBTQ emerging artists demonstrating new perspectives in contemporary visual art are encouraged to apply. Now in its fourth season in the secluded community of Cherry Grove, New York, an historic LGBTQ settlement of Fire Island, five emerging artists will share a live/work space for a four-week program marked by intimate studio visits with, and public lectures by, renowned leaders in contemporary art and curation.
FIAR is pleased to announce that the selection of 2014 residents will be made by the following distinguished guest jurors:
Bill Arning, director, The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston
Amy Sillman, artist and co-chair of Painting at Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York
Lanka Tattersall, curatorial assistant, Department of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art, New York

FIAR provides free live/work space to five artist residents who work, research, relax, and immerse themselves in the Fire Island community. During this time they are visited by a handful renowned visiting artists and art professionals who commune with residents through intimate visits, dinners, and discussions, providing support and feedback throughout the duration of program. The greater Fire Island community, and visitors from New York and Long Island, are invited to attend free public lectures by these esteemed guests of FIAR.

In addition to these events, as part of our free public programming, FIAR is also pleased to partner with Dirty Looks, a roaming platform for queer experimental film and video, to offer public screenings of queer film at the Cherry Grove Community House.
