ON is a peer-reviewed audio journal dedicated to publishing original spoken research on critical issues for the arts. It explores emergent thinking at the intersection of art and other disciplines, creating a space for dynamic conversation and engagement. ON is hosted by the National Institute for Experimental Arts (UNSW Australia).
Expressions of interest for 2014 inaugural issues:
Issue one
ON Global Financial Crisis—exploring cultural responses to economic crisis and the efficacy of new forms of cultural exchange
Issue two
ON Documentary—examining documentary practices in contemporary art
Issue three
ON Objects—examining new discourses of the object
Issue four
ON Amnesia—looking at new understandings of memory formation and memory loss, emerging at the intersection of arts and neuropsychology
Submission guidelines:
ON is dedicated to experimental content and modes of delivery that align with the contemporary focus of the journal. Submissions are in audio format, and may include talks, interviews and roundtables. The emphasis should be on the originality of the research/argument, which will be subject to peer review.
ON applies a two-stage peer-review process, comprising:
1. EOI: Prospective authors are required to send an ‘expression of interest,’ including a 300-word abstract, nominating the issue for which the submission is intended, and a biography of up to 50 words.
2. Audio submission: If an EOI is accepted, an author is requested to submit a 20-minute audio recording and a transcript with bibliographic references.
