About
CULTURAL CAPITAL is the title of this year´s graduation exhibitions of the MFA class 2014 under professor Florian Zeyfang. The exhibitions at Bildmuseet Umeå and ZK/U, Berlin, present the individual works of the 14 graduates as well as their collective interventions in situations connected to the public sphere of the municipality of Umeå and its current state as the European Capital of Culture 2014. Cautious of their perceived cultural capital, these interventions are the result of the investigations and reflections on their role in the social field, following the belief that cultural policies cannot be treated satisfactorily in isolation from the wider economic and political determinations operating upon culture and society.
A catalogue accompanies the exhibition, edited by Viktor Neumann, with texts by Martin Gustavsson, Nicklas Hållén, Igor Isychenko, Christina Meehan Lång, Lina Maria Lopez, Viktor Neumann, Julia Selin, Linnéa Sjöberg, Roland Spolander, Rasmus West and Florian Zeyfang.
