Burren College of Art offers PhD in Studio Art, and MFA/MA programmes in Studio Art and Art & Ecology. These are accredited by the National University of Ireland, Galway, and run in association with the Royal College of Art, London, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, both of whom send faculty mentors to the College each semester.
The MFA in Studio Art provides an immersive education in the development of professional practice for emerging artists. Students develop and demonstrate capabilities for critical enquiry through fine art, with the ability to evaluate their work through an informed grasp of the social, cultural and theoretical concerns shaping discourse on contemporary fine art research and practice. Graduating MFA students produce a final exhibition, demonstrating that they have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to survive and thrive as practicing artists.
The innovative MFA in Art & Ecology prepares the ecologically oriented artist through a combination of studio research, exhibition, and critical enquiry into the social, cultural and theoretical concerns shaping discourse on contemporary art and ecological issues. Art & Ecology students also develop an interdisciplinary collaborative project that engages with ecological/environmental concerns in the Burren or on a global scale.
Burren College of Art graduate students have their own dedicated 200-square-foot studio space, available 24/7 for the duration of their studies. Alongside regular engagement with our faculty of practicing artists and input from a host of visiting artists throughout the year, studio research is augmented by study trips and visits to galleries and museums in Dublin, London and Berlin.
As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations, we are offering a number of Post-graduate scholarships to the value of 8,000 euros each, for the academic year 2014/15. Those interested should first contact Anna Downes, Director of Admissions at [email protected] for details on eligibility, before making an application.
Closing date for applications is 30 May. Full course details and additional information on Burren College of Art is available at www.burrencollege.ie.
Burren College of Art is an internationally recognised, not-for-profit art school located in The Burren—an ancient, complex, enigmatic, paradoxical limestone landscape on Ireland’s Atlantic edge. We facilitate students in finding what is at the core of their artistic practice by providing them with: time away from distraction and with individual mentoring, to de-clutter, focus and rediscover their creative passion; space to think, research, play, experiment, fail, fail better; and inspiration to breathe in, remain centered, connect to source and go boldly forward to make a difference in the world.
