JAR5 is now online

The online, peer-reviewed journal for the publication and discussion of artistic research.

www.jar-online.net

Contributions to this new issue come from artistic researchers working in and between the fields of fine art, choreography, photography, performance, and arts education:

Jaimie Henthorn (US), Juliet Macdonald (GB), Teemu Mäki (FI), Sheilah Wilson (CA), and Amber Yared and Heather Davis (CA).

Unlike the traditional journal article format, JAR offers its contributors a free-to-use online writing space where text can be woven together with image, audio, and video material. This new approach displays research practice in a manner that respects artists’ modes of presentation and incorporates web-enabled possibilities for collaboration, debate, and discussion.

The result is a journal that promotes experimental approaches to ‘writing’ and provides a unique ‘reading’ experience, while carefully fulfilling the expectations of a peer-reviewed academic journal. We embrace research practices across and between disciplines, from artists worldwide, with or without academic affiliation.

JAR uses the Research Catalogue, an innovative repository for the documentation of artistic research. To submit an article, contributors are required to register for an account and use the writing space to lay out and expose their research. JAR provides editorial guidance and technical help with these processes. Interested contributors should first contact the journal to discuss the suitability of their material.

Call for submissions
As interest in JAR is growing, we have moved to three issues a year. JAR6 is currently in review and we are now seeking submissions for JAR7. The deadline for submissions is 31 August. JAR is also looking for submissions to a special issue, ‘Criticism,’ guest edited by Mary Sherman, with a submission deadline of 30 June. Click here for more information.
