Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design is a privately funded post-graduate institute based in Moscow, Russia. Nine-month international multidisciplinary programme, co-designed by Rem Koolhaas, aims to give the students an understanding of the challenges that urbanism faces today, and its correlations with other disciplines that also examine and have an impact on city space.
Education programme
Strelka Institute offers a nine-month postgraduate research-based programme in English that focuses on the urban environment. Education at Strelka is cross-disciplinary and relies on a network of experts and practitioners of various backgrounds. Among the tutors that led research projects at various times are Rem Koolhaas, Reineir de Graaf, Stefano Boeri, Joseph Grima, and others.
The programme runs from October 1 to June 30 and is composed of four stages:
Studio Generale is a course comprised of lectures, seminars and discussions involving key international and local experts. Students gain essential research skills and knowledge over a series of intensive workshops and trainings.
Competiton is a one-month project with a brief on a particular urban problem.
Research studios is the key component of the programme. Under the guidance of a studio director and team leader the students work on their studio research and design project. Each year there are four or five different studios that are unified by the umbrella topic of the year and run for three months.
Public exhibition is the showcase of the research outcomes of the whole year. Guided by an international curator, the students work on the concept, design and composition of the exhibition that opens for public at the end of June.
Owing to the quality of the programme Strelka is ranked among the top 100 European schools of design and architecture by Domus Magazine.
Tuition fees
