We are pleased to announce that the Stamps School of Art & Design is currently accepting applications for its two graduate programs—our new MDes in Integrative Design and the MFA in Art. Both offer specialized workspaces, generous merit-based financial support, and the advantages of a close-knit creative community with access to the human and facility resources only available at a large top-tier research university, including the renowned Penny Stamps Lecture Series.

The new Stamps MDes in Integrative Design is a revolutionary project-based program that brings together a team of student designers from a range of backgrounds, with research, policy, and business partners from across the University and the country to grapple with a single wicked problem. In our inaugural year we’re looking for practicing professionals who want to bring their skills into alignment with the best and most current practices in design to collaboratively address a wicked problems. The challenge of the incoming class of 2015 will be healthcare. Now more than ever, design professionals are being asked to play a leading role in addressing unpredictable, fast‐changing and ambiguous conditions in non-design settings, and the MDes provides graduate students with skills and experience in collaborative work processes, systems thinking, and reframing complex problems.

The Stamps MFA in Art is an intensive two-year program designed for those artists whose creative projects encompass both studio-based investigations and inquiry in fields of knowledge outside the traditional scope of art practice. Past graduates have engaged with fields as diverse as neuroscience, museum studies, big data, and gender studies to inform and expand their creative work. These broad, cross-disciplinary investigations are grounded by courses in contemporary art theory and criticism and close mentorship by world-renowned faculty. Work is made relevant through learning in social engagement strategies, a supported summer international project, and strong, ongoing professional development training that includes support for the transition from student to practicing professional artist.

More information on our graduate programs can be found here or by contacting Wendy Dignan at [email protected].
