Karen Russell

The Creative Writing Lecture Series, organized by Ben Marcus (faculty), welcomes Karen Russell (’06 SOA) for a dynamic talk on literary craft. Russell is the author of St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, Vampires in the Lemon Grove, Sleep Donation and Swamplandia!.

 

Salvador with Oliver Stone, Eric Foner and Ramin Bahrani

Miller Theatre

Acclaimed director Oliver Stone presents his 1986 film Salvador, a political drama that follows a photojournalist to war-torn El Salvador. Historian Eric Foner and director Ramin Bahrani (faculty) join Stone in a post-screening discussion. RSVP here.

 

Keeping the Flute Magic with Isaac Mizrahi and Susan Bernofsky
Moderated by Anne Bogart

Isaac Mizrahi, director of the recently restaged production of The Magic Flute, and Susan Bernofsky (faculty), who wrote a new libretto based on Emanuel Schikaneder’s original, discuss the process, challenges and joys of re-imagining this classic Mozart opera. RSVP here.

 

Revenge of the Mekons with Vito Acconci, Katherine Dieckmann, Jonathan Franzen, Mary Harron, Greil Marcus, Luc Sante, and Mekons band member Jon Langford

Touch with Shelly Silver and Gayatri Spivak

A man returns, after 50 years, to Chinatown to care for his dying mother. He passes his time collecting images that he puts before us, his witnesses and collaborators. A response from philosopher and theorist Gayatri Spivak to follow the film screening, and conversation with director Shelly Silver (faculty and Visual Arts Chair). RSVP here.
