Conversations With Artists, established in 2006, provides an opportunity to experience leading and emerging contemporary artists in an informal, conversational setting. Each season has a theme—including sculpture, economies, experience, public art, collectives, and photography—and the invited artists produce work that explores issues within the theme. Among the artists that have participated in these conversations are Vito Acconci, Janine Antoni, Zarina Bhimji, Daniel Bozhkov, Mel Chin, Mark Dion, Andrea Fraser, Wade Guyton, Hans Haacke, Hassan Khan, Wolfgang Laib, Anthony Mccall, Wangechi Mutu, The Otolith Group, Jorge Pardo, Walid Raad, Pedro Reyes, Katrín Sigurđardóttir, Jessica Stockholder, and Fred Wilson.
As part of a wide-ranging partnership with the George Washington University (GW), which has included co-sponsorship of the Conversations With Artists series since fall 2010, visiting artists in the series also meet with graduate students of the GW Fine Arts department to conduct studio visits and critiques at the GW campus. Students have the extraordinary opportunity to meet one-on-one with artists in an intimate setting to discuss their work and artistic practice.
