President Samuel Hoi—widely regarded as one of the nation’s most innovative higher education leaders, as well as an advocate for art and design education and creative professionals as drivers in social, economic and cultural advancement—joined MICA on Tuesday, July 1, and will be officially installed at a ceremony on Friday, October 31.
Along with Hoi’s inaugural address, reflections will be made by Doreen Bolger, PhD, H’13, Director, Baltimore Museum of Art; Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, PhD, President, University of Maryland, Baltimore County; the Honorable Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Mayor, City of Baltimore; and Ronald J. Daniels, President, the Johns Hopkins University.
The presidential installation ceremony follows the theme of “Forward Together.” The motto of MICA’s founder John H.B. Latrobe, “Forward!,” has become one of MICA’s guiding principles, to always set the academic standard and stay at the vanguard of curricular design. With all members of the MICA family working together to optimize the impact of artists and designers on society. The inauguration of Hoi as MICA’s 19th academic and administrative leader of the College celebrates 189 years of the collective efforts of those who have worked tirelessly to make MICA the academic leader it is today, while looking toward the future.
