Within workshops, crits, reading groups and study trips, MA students will encounter and discuss their thoughts and works with Tai Shani, Rosalind Nashashibi, Lucy Clout, Antony Hudek, Andy Holden, Will Holder, Jens Hoffmann, Emma Hart, Patrick Staff, Rose Wylie, Maria Lind, Gordon Cheung, Haroon Mirza, and Francesco Manacorda, amongst others.
Continuing into its third year, the publically accessible RCA Visual Cultures Lecture Series provides a series of public and free lectures. Under the title of “Contemporaneity and Other Tales,” this season’s series will consider the question of contemporaneity framed as an investigation of this ephemeral and ungraspable concept. The lectures address questions pertinent to our understanding of fine art and its broader context today. Guest speakers are invited to speak about their work in relation to a given line of enquiry and range from distinguished artists and writers to curators and academics. Each lecture, together with related seminar and workshop activity, contributes towards a body of material that is collated as a source of new insights in the field and made available within the Royal College of Art and to our broader community. The series began with leading American artist Richard Tuttle, to coincide with the opening of two of his major London exhibitions at Tate Modern Turbine Hall and the Whitechapel Gallery. Forthcoming speakers include the “father of conceptual art” Joseph Kosuth in conversation with Serpentine Gallery co-director and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist; artist Susan Hiller; curator Mihnea Mircan and academic Saskia Sassen.
