The Graduate Students of the Interdisciplinary Arts Department at Columbia College Chicago invite you to join them for an evening of open studios on December 4 from 6 to 9pm. Over 40 artists working in a rich variety of media will be present to discuss and demonstrate their interdisciplinary practices in a studio environment, sharing completed projects, works in progress, documentation, sketches, performances, prototypes, and takeaways. Artworks will span installation, sculpture, video, sound, performance, book arts, new media, creative writing, and innovative, intriguing combinations of materials and concepts that defy classification. Light refreshments will be served.
Hybrid practice
The Interdisciplinary Arts Department has three graduate degrees; we encourage students to embrace the permeable nature of our programs to investigate a vast array of department offerings including studio courses in video, electronics, sound, interaction, performance, installation, and creative writing, and theory/practice courses addressing topics such as autobiographical art, the body, visual narratives, and art+science collaborations. At the open studios, you’ll have a chance to see compelling works by students enrolled in all three of our programs.
