The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is ranked among the best in the nation, according to a new survey of practitioners by DesignIntelligence. NYSID’s graduate interior design programs are ranked #1 in the nation and undergraduate interior design programs are ranked #3 in the nation for 2015.
In the regional rankings, NYSID continued its strong showing—the graduate programs are again ranked #1 and the undergraduate programs are ranked #2 in the East Coast region. The College also dominated the rankings of Interior Design Skills Assessment, ranking #1 in five out of six categories: Communication Skills, Design Skills, Computer Applications, Cross-Disciplinary Teamwork, and Sustainable Design Practices & Principles.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive these outstanding rankings” said NYSID president David Sprouls. “They reflect our rigorous programs, strong faculty, and above all, that we are graduating exemplary students who have the skills they need to succeed. It also underscores that as single-discipline college we are able to offer a deep and broad curriculum within small and focused learning environments. It’s a methodology that works and is reflected in these rankings.”
DesignIntelligence ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners. A total of 1,426 professional practice leaders with direct experience hiring and supervising the performance of recent architecture and design graduates participated in the research. The survey queried participants on the question, “In your firm’s hiring experience in the past five years, which of the following schools are best preparing students for success in today’s profession?” In addition, they are queried about additional issues, such as how programs rate in teaching various skills.
The survey was published in DesignIntelligence’s 2015 “America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools,” which it has published annually since 2000. DesignIntelligence is a publication of the Design Futures Council (DFC), a global interdisciplinary network of design community professionals, including leaders of architecture and design firms, product designers and manufacturers, construction and service providers.
