The School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU Singapore), in collaboration with the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (CCA Singapore) offers programs leading to a Master of Arts (Research) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree. The newly established NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore provides the opportunity for ADM to offer a dedicated focus on “Spaces of the Curatorial” in addition to the existing areas of graduate and post-graduate study in Art, Design, and Media.

The pioneering programmes will allow MA students and PhD candidates to pursue independent research within the framework of contemporary critical discourse in the field of contemporary art with a focus on the curatorial. Students will have the opportunity to engage both in theory as well as practice. Unique to this program is its focus on Southeast Asia, which is culturally rich and highly diverse in its infrastructures. Singapore’s geographical position provides an ideal base to study recent development in the arts, archival practices, spaces of presentation and representation that are linked to Southeast Asia’s different historical trajectories.

Students in the programs will be supervised and taught by an international faculty of ADM. In addition to a wealth of opportunities offered by ADM/NTU, students of the programs will study and pursue research in close proximity to NTU’s Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore’s resident artists and visiting scholars. Furthermore, students can partake in curatorial and research projects, exhibitions, symposia and other events at ADM/NTU, CCA Singapore, and other affiliated institutions in Singapore and beyond.

The application deadline is December 19.
Late submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

ADM/NTU and NTU Centre for Contemporary Art seek applicants from diverse backgrounds with a strong interest in the expanded field of curating, and/or in the art ecosystems of Southeast Asia. Applicants should be independent, self-driven, and interested in taking part in the defining phase of this new area of study offered by ADM/NTU. The MA (Research) programme culminates in the preparation of a written thesis; alternatively students may choose to produce a project alongside their thesis, with a possible focus on curatorial spaces and related discourses.

Admission is based on:
– A statement of intent
– A research proposal
– Samples of academic writing
– Academic record

For more information on all MA (Research) and PhD areas offered by the School of Art, Design and Media, including application process and requirements, curriculum and fees of the programmes, please see the Master of Arts (Research)  or PhD programme websites.
