Judith Butler is the author of numerous influential books, including Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity (1990), Precarious Life. The Powers of Mourning and Violence (2004) and, most recently, Dispossession: The Performative in the Political (2013). She is Maxine Elliot Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Program of Critical Theory at the University of California Berkeley.
The MA Aesthetics and Politics offers a one-year degree that encourages interrogations of the arts and politics in an expanded field. Students specialize in Critical Theory, Global Studies, or Media and Urban Studies and get up close and personal with key contemporary artists and thinkers.
