Lite Brite Neon
232 Third Street
Brooklyn, NY 11215
Neon Workshops have teamed up with the most influential players in New York City’s neon scene to deliver an ambitious workshop and event series. From taking a street tour with New York Neon author Thomas Rinaldi, to watching William Klein’s stunning movie Broadway by Light on a Brooklyn rooftop at dusk, this will undoubtedly be the coolest neon workshop we’ve ever attempted! Work with fire, glass and electric at the renowned Lite Brite Neon studio. End the day in a hip Williamsburg bar, listening to neon stories from the likes of Jeff Friedman—owner of the world’s most famous neon shop, Let There be Neon.
Participants will be based at Lite Brite during the day. The workshop will cover the theory of neon, colour, brightness, bending, fusing, blowing, electroding, installation methods and techniques. We aim for everyone to leave with a fully-working neon if this is their wish. The New York Neon Workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from real heavyweight names in the neon industry, an industry that is often frustratingly shrouded in secrecy!
Evening events are planned on the history of neon, the part it has played and continues to play in modern culture and its place as an artistic medium. You will be invited to a pop-up group show Nude not Naked by British artists Singleton, Sweeney and Wheater. Spend Saturday night in an audience with the dons of neon, including Thomas Rinaldi and Jeff Friedman and round the weekend off with a neon tour of the Lower East Side.
This extraordinary neon weekend in New York City will enhance your appreciation of neon and is an opportunity to either get started in this art form, or develop your skill further.
Price includes three days of workshops and evening events, but does not include flights, accommodation and meals. For more details, please email [email protected] or call T +44 1924200069. Information sheet and schedule are available upon request.
