From 12 to 15 February the Städelschule Frankfurt will host its annual Rundgang. During this four-day period students from internationally acclaimed faculty members such as Monika Baer, Ben van Berkel, Johan Bettum, Peter Fischli, Douglas Gordon, Judith Hopf, Michael Krebber, Tobias Rehberger and Willem de Rooij, will open their studios to the public. Works will be shown on the two main campuses in Dürerstrasse and Daimlerstrasse Frankfurt; the Curatorial & Critical Studies programme will conduct a wide variety of lectures and interviews at the school’s lecture hall; video artists and filmmakers show recent productions in the Deutsche Filmmuseum and the Architecture class exhibits in their classrooms. With more than 13.000 visitors last year and over 190 students presenting their work, the Rundgang has become one of Frankfurt’s most prominent art events.
The Städelschule was founded in 1817 and is amongst the foremost art academies in the world, offering degrees in fine art, architecture and curatorial critical studies. Its faculty, also including Daniel Birnbaum, Isabelle Graw and Philippe Pirotte, attracts a unique student body with over 70 percent of students from abroad. Furthermore, guest professors, external lecturers and visiting tutors have supported and developed a diverse range of teaching formats. Visiting faculty in 2014/15 includes Mark Von Schlegell and Hassan Khan. For the Architecture class: Mirco Becker, Peter Trummer and Christian Veddeler.
Since 1987, the exhibition programme of Portikus Gallery has been an integral part of Städelschule, adding to the school’s teaching syllabus and international reputation. Portikus has developed into a leading centre for contemporary art in Germany and beyond, with a rich history that features more than 190 exhibitions to date. During the Rundgang Portikus will host an exhibition by Venezuelan artist Meyer Vaisman, which will open on Friday, 13 February at 8pm.

Portikus
After a decade-long furlough from visual art during which he immersed himself in Jewish spirituality and grew increasingly disenchanted with figurative art, Venezuelan artist Meyer Vaisman presents a selection of abstract works at Portikus: prints on wood that should be categorized as paintings and whose expressive intensity recalls action painting; large-format paintings of the artist’s thumbprint that may be read as self-portraits; and text-based pieces.
