About the fellowships
Performa is pleased to announce the inaugural Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellowships, which will provide a comprehensive training experience for two post-doctoral scholars within the year-round program of the organization, and the development and presentation of the critically acclaimed Performa biennial.
Designed to educate a new generation of curators, the fellowships will equip emerging scholars with the necessary skills for curating, producing, and critiquing both contemporary and historical performance by visual artists. Each curatorial fellow will be given the opportunity to develop a research or production project for the biennial. Fellows will also contribute to the year-round Performa Institute initiatives, traveling exhibitions, and programs. During the Performa biennial, fellows will be involved with the coordination and day-to-day operation of the Performa Institute program of talks, and events at the Performa Hub. Fellows will contribute to ongoing historical research, the publishing activities of Performa, and to the editorial content for Performa Magazine. The fellows will gain in-depth exposure to the history of performance and to current issues in curating performance.

About Performa
Performa is a multidisciplinary non-profit arts organization, founded by art historian RoseLee Goldberg in 2004, dedicated to exploring the critical role of live performance in the history of 20th-century art and to encouraging new directions in performance for the 21st century, engaging artists and audiences through experimentation, innovation, and collaboration. Part of Performa’s mission is to present a biennial of visual art performance in New York City that illuminates the critical role of performance in the history of art as well as its enormous significance in the international world of contemporary art.
Requirements
Applicants must have been awarded a PhD degree in either Art History, Performance Studies, Dance Studies, or related fields.
Conditions
The paid positions are full-time for two years, based in New York City, starting spring 2015.
