HOME and Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival are delighted to introduce Feature Expanded, the first ever training programme designed to support visual artists who want to make a full-length film. Feature Expanded will provide a uniquely tailored set of activities responding to the important trend of visual artists pairing their new vision and strong innovation with feature film production.
For six months and across two locations, the programme will include a combination of masterclasses, case studies, workshops, screenings, one-to-one meetings and pitching sessions for directors. Twelve participants will acquire essential new skills and expertise to advance their early stage feature film projects for theatrical distribution and exhibition.
The Feature Expanded team will organise two residential workshops in Manchester (24–29 June) and Florence (18–22 November), between which participants will work on project development, responding to set tasks and using online consultancy on specific topics. Participants will then be directed to collaborations with relevant festivals, markets and partners.
Confirmed tutors and speakers include film producers Leif Magne Tangen, Samm Haillay; filmmakers Khalil Joreige & Andrew Kötting; film development expert Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten; pitching expert Sibylle Kurz; curator Omar Kholeif and many more. Feature Expanded is co-directed by Leonardo Bigazzi (Lo Schermo dell’Arte) and Professor Sarah Perks (HOME).
Participants will be expected to have a proven academic or practical background in contemporary visual arts and significant experience of short film production and/or moving image practice.
The course costs 2,500 euros full price, with bursaries available. Cost includes food and accommodation both in Florence and Manchester. There are 12 places available. For further information please visit the website.
HOME is Manchester’s new centre for international contemporary visual art, theatre and film. Formed from the merger of two of the city’s best loved institutions, Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company, it is a home for curiosity seekers, lovers of the dramatic, the digital and the deeply engaging; for radicals and reciprocators.
Founded in Florence in 2008, Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival is an international project dedicated to exploring, analysing and promoting the complex relations between contemporary art and cinema through films, videos, installations, publications and training programs.
