The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts is offering two courses in curatorial practice and theory with Joanna Warsza, recently Head of the Public Program of Manifesta 10 in St. Petersburg; and Raimundas Malašauskas, who e.g. curated the Lithuanian and Cyprus Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. After a very successful premiere last year, there will be two courses on The Art of Writing and Theory with renowned author and art historian Jennifer Allen, who published hundreds of texts for a host of international publications, including Artforum, Mousse, frieze and frieze d/e (which she edited from 2011 to 2013).

Joanna Warsza
When the Timing Could Not Have Been Worse – On Curating, Boycotts, Withdrawals and Political Upheavals
20–25 July 2015

In her course, curator Joanna Warsza will propose an exercise in reflecting on curatorial and artistic scenarios and political dilemmas. How does one engage with audience in a place of political non-alignment? How does art challenge the oppressive political and aesthetic climate?
Fee: 440 euro (reduced 360 euro)

Jennifer Allen
The Art of Writing and Theory
10–18 August 2015 or 20–28 August 2015

Writing is a challenge for everyone, but especially for people in art, because we must “translate” a complex, three-dimensional, bodily experience into tiny black letters on a flat plain surface, whether screen or page. This workshop of author and art historian Jennifer Allen is designed for everyone who would like to revamp their relationship to writing: artists, curators, critics, even experienced theorists.
Fee: 540 euro (reduced 430 euro)
