The Department of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is pleased to announce our roster of ten recent hires at the Assistant Professor level. Over the past few years we have added new faculty in virtually all of our disciplines including comics, ceramics, digital media, glass, metals, photography, painting and printmaking. These extraordinary artists and educators have been tremendous additions to our dynamic faculty and are making significant contributions to the curriculum and our students.
Disciplinary areas within the Department are situated within a framework that celebrates historical lineage while insisting on the relationship of those areas to a wider field of practice. The Department has maintained groundbreaking histories in traditional areas of craft and remains one of a handful of campuses that continues to offer coursework in these areas. Our offerings in digital media and fabrication, 3D modeling and interdisciplinary experimental practices continue to expand with the growing demand in these fields.
The Department of Art at University of Wisconsin-Madison is part of an internationally renowned research university with a remarkable history. At the graduate level students take part in a three-year, interdisciplinary program that emphasizes contemporary approaches to artistic practice, theory and criticism. The program is structured around advanced visual research and includes extensive interaction with faculty, guest critics and visiting artists. We actively encourage a wide range of material practices, experimentation and collaboration with other areas of the art department and the larger university.
Our recent faculty hires include:
