The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut invites applications for the Jabre Chair in Art History and Curating, at the level of Associate or Full Professor. Employment will begin August 15, 2016. The area of specialization required is Contemporary Art History and Theory, and Theories, Methods and Practices of Curating, with strong expertise in art of the Middle East and the Arab world.
Applicants must demonstrate strong evidence of scholarly research, curatorial practice, and experience of curriculum development and service. The Jabre Chair will lead the new MA program in Art History and Curating, contributing towards art history offerings both at undergraduate and graduate levels. S/he will develop courses, establish collaborations with local, regional and international art and academic institutions, and work closely with AUB Art Galleries. Opportunities to curate exhibitions at the galleries are available.
The applicant must hold a PhD in Art History, Curatorial Studies or a relevant field, and have significant experience as a scholar and a curator. The course load is five courses per year, although course reductions for administrative duties are available. The language of instruction is English.
