Each semester California College of the Arts (CCA) brings to campus prominent guest lecturers and visiting artists who are at the forefront of their respective fields. Below is a selection of the more than 40 artists, architects, designers, scholars, and writers giving presentations this fall. All events are free and open to the public. Marlon James
October 2
Author of A Brief History of Seven Killings, currently shortlisted for the 2015 Man Booker Prize. He is Master Writer in Residence in CCA’s MFA in Writing program.

Edith Garcia 
October 7
Sculptor, installation artist, visual critic, and author of Ceramics and the Human Figure (2012). Awarded 2015 Viola Frey Distinguished Visiting Professorship at CCA.

Paul Graham 
October 13
Influential English photographer whose work has been exhibited, published, and collected internationally. Co-presented by CCA, Pier 24 Photography, and SFMOMA as part of the Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Program.

Eileen Myles 
October 16
American poet, novelist, performer, and art journalist who is the author of 19 books, including I Must Be Living Twice and Chelsea Girls.

Ayse Birsel 
October 21
Founder of New York design firm Birsel + Seck and author of the new book Design the Life You Love.

Jennifer Reeder
October 22
Her award-winning films have been shown around the world at such film festivals as Sundance and the Berlinale, as well as at art events including the Venice and Whitney biennials.

Joshua Oppenheimer
November 4
Film director whose debut feature film, The Act of Killing (2012), was named Film of the Year by the Guardian and was nominated for the 2014 Academy Award for Best Documentary. Part of CCA’s Cinema Visionaries Series.

Natalie Jeremijenko
November 6
Associate professor in the Visual Art Department, NYU, and affiliated with the Computer Science Department and Environmental Studies program. Keynote speaker at the AICAD Science in the Studio national symposium.

 

About California College of the Arts
Founded in 1907, California College of the Arts (CCA) offers 22 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs in the areas of fine arts, architecture, design, and writing. The college offers BFA, BA, MFA, MA, MBA, BArch, MArch, and MAAD degrees. It has campuses in San Francisco and Oakland, and currently enrolls 2,000 full-time students. CCA students are encouraged to work in an interdisciplinary manner, undertaking projects and collaborations with students in other majors and engaging with outside communities.

Noted alumni include the artists Nathan Oliveira, Jules de Balincourt, Robert Arneson, Robert Bechtle, Viola Frey, and Peter Voulkos; the Oscar-winning filmmaker Audrey Marrs; the illustrator Tomie de Paola; the conceptual artists Harrell Fletcher, David Ireland, and Dennis Oppenheim; and the designers Lucille Tenazas, Michael Vanderbyl, and Gary Hutton.
