YARAT Contemporary Art Space is pleased to announce the launch of a renewed residency programme aimed at developing young Azerbaijani voices and emerging international artists with a focus on new, experimental practices. The residency programme is based at YARAT Studios, which has 11 spaces for artists. Residencies will occur three times a year, and each residency will last for a period of three months, as detailed below. YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites all artists to apply to this residency programme.
Period I: mid-January to mid-April
Period II: mid-April to mid-July
Period III: mid-September to mid-December
The YARAT residency offers:
–Studio space, accommodation and a stipend for the duration of the residency.
–A one-week international trip with all residents and curators to actively engage in research and discussions. Possible examples include a visit to Kazakhstan or Turkey.
–Monthly workshops with international curators.
–Workshops presenting opportunities to apply for prizes and other residencies.
–Weekly meetings with YARAT curators.
–Weekly artist meetings.
–A budget for production of a new work.
Each artist will close their residency with a small scale solo exhibition at ARTIM Project Space.
Application process
Places will be awarded subject to the artist’s portfolio and his or her letter of intent. An indication should be given if there is a particular project or aspect of an artist’s practice which relates to the Caucasus and the wider region. Residents will be selected by the YARAT Selection Committee.
If your application is shortlisted, YARAT will send you an email upon completion of the selection process. An interview will then follow either by Skype or in person. Timeframe and deadline
–Deadline for receiving applications is at 12am (00:00) (GTM+1) on December 20. This application deadline will be strictly enforced.
–Selection of the applicants will be completed and residents will be informed starting January 5, 2016.
–The residency programme starts mid-January (more details will be given)

YARAT is an artist-founded, not-for-profit art organization based in Baku, Azerbaijan established by Aida Mahmudova in 2011. YARAT (which means “create” in Azerbaijani) is a dedicated platform for contemporary art with a long-term commitment to create a hub for artistic practices, research, thinking and education in the Caucasus, Central Asia and surrounding region.
