St. John’s University is accepting applications for its 2016 MA Program in Museum Administration. We strongly encourage candidates to apply by our priority deadline of March 15, 2016. Applications received after March 1 will be considered on a space-available basis.
The new MA Program in Museum Administration provides professional training for careers in research, preservation, and management of cultural artifacts. Welcoming applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, the program encompasses curatorial practice; collections and exhibitions management; museum education; and the application of museum-specific communication techniques and technology platforms. Students combine academic study, exposure to New York City’s museum collections, and engagement with experts in the field. Students also create personalized study plans and chart career paths for a wide range of museum specializations. The program requires 36 credits that include a three- or six-credit internship, opportunities to showcase original research through curatorial projects, and the advantage of gaining interdisciplinary, collection-based expertise through nine credits of study in public history and library and information science.
Study and internship experiences are available through the University’s Queens and Manhattan campuses along with study abroad sites in Rome and Paris.
Graduate assistantships with funding support are available through competitive application.
This program is approved by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
