ON is a peer-reviewed audio journal dedicated to publishing original spoken research on critical issues for the arts. It explores emergent thinking at the intersection of art and other disciplines, creating a space for dynamic conversation and engagement. ON is hosted by the National Institute for Experimental Arts (UNSW Australia).
Call for expressions of Interest for these upcoming issues for 2016:
Issue two, number one:
ON Financial Crisis—exploring cultural, emotional and affective responses to economic events.
Featuring articles by David McNeill and Yanis Varoufakis.
Issue two, number two:
ON Amnesia—looking at new understandings of memory formation and memory loss, emerging at the intersection of arts and neuropsychology.
Featuring articles by Jill Bennett and Catherine Loveday.
Issue two, number three:
ON The Performance Lecture (guest edited by Veronica Tello and Diana Smith)—explores such concepts as institutional critique, knowledge production, performativity, voice and subjectivity to critically evaluate and generate new understandings of this art form (scholarly and/or practice-led submissions welcome).
We are also calling for expressions of interest for these future issues:
ON Conspiracy—exploring the structure and role of conspiracy, paranoia and anxiety in contemporary critical discourse.
ON Curating—examining experimental modes of curating in contemporary art.
Submission guidelines
ON is dedicated to experimental content and modes of delivery that align with the contemporary focus of the journal. Submissions are in audio format, and may include talks, interviews and roundtables as well as creative, conceptual or performative works. The emphasis should be on the originality of the research/argument, which will be subject to peer review.
ON applies a two-stage peer-review process, comprising:
1. EOI: Prospective authors are required to send an expression of interest, including a 300-word abstract, nominating the issue for which the submission is intended, and a biography of up to 50 words.
2. Audio submission: If an EOI is accepted, an author is requested to submit a 20-minute audio recording and a transcript with bibliographic references.
