The Academy of the Arts of the World is a cultural institution of a new type and a production platform in the city of Cologne. The Academy is composed of an expert team, an artistic director and a general director, as well as a collective of members from different backgrounds and continents. Thematically, its main focus is on non–Western art and postcolonial issues. One of its key questions is the following: How can artistic practices foster alternative ways of thinking and acting, which incite or support decolonial processes and are based on an intercultural and globally connected community?
The Academy works in the unexplored zones between different art forms and media.
Position: Assistant Curator
Hours: 40 weekly
The Academy of the Arts of the World is seeking an Assistant Curator. The Assistant Curator’s role is to work closely with the Academy’s Artistic Director to develop and deliver a program of international interdisciplinary events and exhibitions with a critical focus on postcolonial issues.
The position offers an opportunity to research, plan, and carry out a broad range of projects in all aspects of the realization of events and exhibitions.
Your profile:
–proven curatorial experience and knowledge, particularly in the field of non-Western art
–a close familiarity with the international contemporary art scene
–a strong grasp of the political issues and critical theories relevant to cultural production today
–proficiency in both German and English languages
–interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely in a team
–a willingness to relocate to Cologne
Experiences in organizing projects in the fields of performance, music, dance, and/or theater are welcome.
