In keeping with the spirit of experimentation that made the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella mythical as one of the most advanced interdisciplinary creative centers of the ’60s, the Programa de Artistas of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Buenos Aires is a one-year program that provides visual artists, critics, and curators with an intensive experience in which to reflect on and produce contemporary art.
The eighth edition of the program has four fundamental features:
–A group of approximately 18 artists and six curators/critics. The aim of this coexistence is to provide a unique opportunity for exchange, whereby the practices and positions pivotal to the arts are explored critically in the framework of an intense and shared experience of discussion and collaboration.
–The program includes a central seminar geared towards reflection on the work of each participant, workshops for experimentation, and a series of theoretical seminars on various topics pertinent to current artistic production in a broader cultural and social context.
–Both the program’s contents and a group-based working model have proven to provide an ideal environment for foreign artists and curators interested in connecting with relevant ideas and professionals from South America in general and Argentina in particular.
–The program’s faculty includes outstanding professors from Buenos Aires and abroad. In 2016, the confirmed faculty will consist of Mónica Giron, Mariano Mayer, Andrea Giunta, Graciela Speranza, Tobias Ostrander, Santiago García Navarro, Rafael Cippolini, Lara Marmor, Marianna Garín, Diego Bianchi, Karina Peisajovich, and Mariela Scafati.
Previous visiting professors include Mario García Torres, Lars Bang Larsen, Juan Gaitán, Mauricio Marcin, Martí Manen, Raimundas Malasauskas, Carlos Amorales, Renata Lucas, Paulo Herkenhoff, Santiago Sierra, Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, Sergio Muñoz Sarmiento, Bruce Altshuler, Chus Martínez, and Cuauhtémoc Medina.
