Christie’s Education London offers Masters and Postgraduate Diploma courses in Modern and Contemporary Art and Art World Practice. This unique programme accredited by the University of Glasgow is renowned for the scope and depth of its exploration of contemporary art and its creative engagement with today’s working art world. Courses are specifically designed for those with ambitions to become specialists in the field of modern and contemporary art, taking up careers including: gallerists, auction house specialists, curators, writers and art consultants. Exploiting all that London offers as a global art centre, these Christie’s courses combine advanced studies in the history and theory of art with practical training and object-based study.
Object-based study. The programme provides students with many opportunities to study works of art firsthand through museum- and gallery-based classes, specialist-led handling sessions and artists’ studio visits. All students are trained to catalogue works of art to auction house and museum standards, also assessing issues that impact market value.
Seminars enable in-depth analysis of relationships between art practices, cultural contexts and critical debates. Students deliver presentations and generate seminar discussions. Methodology classes provide transferable skills for independent research and individual development as researchers and writers. Curatorial studies workshops and projects are led by faculty and invited tutors who are leaders in their field.
Two study trips a year* to major events in Europe are key elements of a course that keeps pace with a fast-moving art world. These include visits to international events such as the Venice Biennale, Berlin Biennale and Documenta.
