The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts offers two courses in curatorial practice and theory with Alya Sebti, recently appointed new director of the ifa-Galerie in Berlin, and with Joanna Warsza, who curated the Public Program for Manifesta 10 in St. Petersburg (2014), the Georgian Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale, and who was associate curator of the 7th Berlin Biennale (2012). Furthermore, Kimberly Bradley, a renowned writer and critic for publications including The New York Times, Monocle, ArtReview, frieze and monopol, will direct a course in writing about art.
Alya Sebti
Curating/Translating The Polyphony Of Voices
July 18–23
What conditions are necessary for curating in the global art world? How do we cope with the polyphony of global discourses and the breakneck working speed? Alya Sebti will analyse the role of the curator today, and work with students to develop strategies for meeting the current challenges in curating.
Joanna Warsza
I Can’t Work Like This. Addressing The Question Of Curatorial Ethics
July 25–30
No art context is innocent; every project is in some way problematic—whether for financial, ideological or political reasons. In this course, Joanna Warsza will examine some historical and contemporary examples of curatorial ethical dilemmas, and collaborate with students in working out a code of curatorial ethics.
Kimberly Bradley
Images Into Words: Writing About Art
