The increasing globalization of Latin American art history and literary studies has altered the topography of these disciplines in ways that are widely acknowledged but not yet clearly defined. This conference will trace some of the changes occurring in these fields as they shift from an international focus to a more global one. How is the current emphasis on globalization shaping the questions asked of Latin American art and literature? In what ways has the approach to Latin American art and culture changed in recent years? What is the future of Latin American art history and literary and cultural studies? “Global Latin America” brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines and with different geopolitical expertise to address some of these questions and suggest new directions for scholarship and analysis.
