The Post-Baccalaureate residency at Pacific Northwest College of Art helps artists prepare a strong portfolio to gain admittance to MA/MFA visual arts programs or transition into or further secure a life of creative practice and work. For two semesters, the post-bacc student engages in intensive mentor-guided studio work while taking studio electives as well as art history and theory courses. This happens in a supportive, studio-based environment marked by generous studio time, critique and discussion, peer learning, high-level mentorship, and access to production facilities and tools.

PNCA is in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon and deeply embedded in the city’s vibrant art scene and creative culture.

Mentor-driven
Students are matched with an experienced mentor chosen for their expertise in the student’s chosen field of study and personal direction. Mentors are selected for their abilities to engage and challenge the diverse intellectual and practical needs of the candidates, and are predominantly drawn from PNCA’s 100 plus full-time and part-time teachers who are accomplished professional artists, designers, and scholars maintaining active practices in their fields.

Studio space and production facilities
Each student is provided with his or her own individual studio space and has access to all of the College’s digital labs and shop facilities, which support all manner of creative 2-D, 3-D and time-based making, as well as the library’s extensive collections and resources.

Visiting artists and exhibitions
Of considerable importance to the student’s growth and experience is his or her access to PNCA’s robust Visiting Artist and Scholar Program of nationally and internationally known artists, designers and scholars. Additionally, PNCA offers a wealth of exhibition venues, from designated sites for student work to the new Center for Contemporary Art & Culture, which hosts exhibitions of work by national and international artists.
