Join us for part one of Hunter College’s spring 2016 MFA thesis exhibition, which opens on Thursday, April 21 from 6–8pm in the 205 Hudson Street Gallery. The exhibition features works by eight graduating artists: Michael Blake, Ryan Brennan, ray ferreira, Priscilla Fusco, Adam Golfer, Miatta Kawinzi, Takayuki Kubota, and Erik Patton. The exhibition runs through May 7.

Please join us again for the opening of part two of the spring 2016 MFA thesis exhibition, Thursday, May 19 from 6–8pm at 205 Hudson Street. The exhibition highlights work by ten graduating artists: Christopher Aque, Chajana denHarder, Derek Fordjour, Elektra KB, Andy Macasil, Rachel Schragis, Zorawar Sidhu, Sarah Slappey, Jonathan Tracy, and Mathew Tucker.

The thesis exhibition represents the culmination of each student’s experience in Hunter College’s prestigious and competitive Studio Art MFA program, a three-year program designed to offer broad opportunities for artists to develop their work and an ongoing studio practice in an environment that encourages experimentation and critical dialogue. MFA students work with Hunter’s exceptional full-time faculty both individually in tutorials and in small seminars focusing on student work and contemporary practice, as well as in classes in the theory, criticism and history of art. In addition, many artists, curators, critics, and historians are invited to meet with students.

Hunter’s MFA facility, located at the corner of Hudson Street and Canal Street in Manhattan’s Tribeca, offers students and faculty exceptional access to intellectual, cultural, and creative resources, and our presence in New York is crucial to our educational goal: the development of professional artists capable of continued growth once they leave the relatively structured graduate school environment. Studio space is available for all matriculated graduate students in the building at 205 Hudson Street, and facilities include a woodshop, a metal shop, clay studio, printmaking studio, computer lab, audio and video editing facilities, black-and-white and color photo darkrooms, a flexible performance space, and a 5,000-square-foot gallery, which houses the MFA thesis shows each semester in addition to exhibitions curated by Hunter College curatorial staff and faculty.
