About the conference
“Unraveling M.B.” seeks to bring together several generations of scholars from the academic, the museum and the gallery worlds for in-depth exchanges on the work of the Belgian artist, Marcel Broodthaers (1924–76). The conference is held on the occasion of the artist’s major retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, curated by Christophe Cherix. It is organized by Thierry de Duve, Evelyn Kranes Kossak Professor and Distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College, with the assistance of Mia Kang. The conference is supported by programming funds from the Evelyn Kranes Kossak Professorship Endowment.

–Thierry de Duve is Evelyn Kranes Kossak Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College.
–Sabine Folie is an art historian and independent curator, and former Director of the Generali Foundation, Vienna.
–Rachel Haidu is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Rochester, NY.
–Rosalind Krauss is University Professor in the Department of Art History at Columbia University, New York.

The Kossak Lecture Hall is located on the 15th floor of Hunter College’s North Building, room 1527. Entrance to the North Building is on the south side of 69th Street between Lexington and Park avenues. Take the A bank elevators to the 15th floor and follow signs to 1527. Closest subway is the 6 train at 68th Street Hunter College.
Department of Art and Art History
The Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College comprises a nationally ranked and internationally recognized Studio Art MFA program; an MA program that boasts the largest Art History faculty in the City University of New York system, with significant strengths in modern European and Latin American art and a strong research profile across the discipline’s geographic and chronological fields; four galleries mounting student-researched professional caliber exhibitions; and robust and diverse undergraduate programs in both Studio Art and Art History.
Hunter College
Hunter College, located in the heart of Manhattan, is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system.
