We are seeking to appoint an artist in residence. We are looking for an artist who uses clay in their practice in innovative or experimental ways. The successful candidate will have an exciting and dynamic visual art practice and a profile of developing and exhibiting work at an international level, or will have the potential for this.

This opportunity has been developed as a collaboration between Newcastle University and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and there will be an opportunity for the artist to develop plans for an exhibition of their work in one of Britain’s most important contemporary spaces after the completion of the residency. The artist will be based full-time in the Fine Art studios in Newcastle University.

Funding is available from the Norma Lipman Bequest to appoint one artist for an initial period of one year, with a possible further extension of six months. The post is available from October 2016 with the start date to be negotiated. Further details about Fine Art, School of Arts and Cultures and BALTIC are available on the Newcastle University website and Baltic Mill website.

Informal enquiries concerning the position can be made to Andrew Burton, Professor of Fine Art, email: [email protected]

Applications must be made online, but candidates are very strongly encouraged to provide with their application examples of their current work (preferably as a single power point/PDF on USB stick) or a link to their website. Images should be sent to: Nigel Villalard, School of Arts and Cultures, Newcastle University, NE1 7RU, UK marking their package LIPMAN POST. Candidates may submit a selection of catalogues or other publications but must provide suitable postage paid packaging if they wish these to be returned.
