Künstlerhaus Bethanien is an internationally renowned forum for contemporary art in Berlin. Established in 1974 as an artist-in-residence programme with workspaces for professional artists and exhibition spaces, it is dedicated to the advancement of contemporary visual arts and artists.
As part of its residency scheme, it aims to establish a lively dialogue between artists from various backgrounds and disciplines, and the public at large. To achieve these goals, the Künstlerhaus Bethanien organises a wide range of events ranging from monthly exhibition openings to private and public studio visits, the open studios.
We are pleased to announce our next open studios event on July 14, from 7 to 10pm.
The artists partipating in the International Studio Programme will open their studios to the public to provide insight into their artistic practice and current projects.

The event goes along with the opening of the major group exhibition Ende vom Lied (The Final Curtain) on July 14 at 7pm, which will be shown in our gallery spaces between July 15 and September 18, 2016 (opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday 2–7pm). The exhibition with works by 28 artists (curator: Christoph Tannert) refers to the expatriation of songwriter Wolf Biermann from the GDR in autumn 1976. Though that was 40 years ago, memories of the artist’s audacious poems and songs and his courageously expressed criticism of those wielding power in the unjust state of the GDR are still very much alive, even today.
