We are seeking a Dean with enthusiasm and expertise in the area of contemporary art who can develop the art academy’s profile and curriculum, as well as participate in the strategic development of KHiO as a whole. The Dean is a part of KHiO’s leadership team and reports to the Rector and Director.
The Dean will lead the Academy with a visionary and strategic perspective and develop the Academy’s potential in education, artistic research and dissemination. The Dean will represent the Academy towards cultural stakeholders and partners, and will be involved in public debates, defending the position of art in society.

Responsibilities include:
–Artistic and administrative responsibility and leadership of the Academy of Fine Art
–Developing and assuring the quality of educational activities
–Promoting artistic research and dissemination
–Allocating resources and carrying economic responsibility
–Strategic planning
–Overall management responsibility for the Academy of Fine Art’s employees, ensuring their participation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and agreements
–Representation of the Academy of Fine Art in the public domain and developing cooperations with relevant actors in the field
Qualifications required:
–A Master degree, or equivalent, in relevant disciplines
–Relevant academic and/or artistic practice at a high level
–Documented leadership experience
–Experience with economic and human resources
–Capacity for analytical and strategic thinking
–Knowledge of, or experience in higher education is considered an asset
–Possessing an extensive network, nationally and/or internationally
–Fluency in English, both oral and written

–Ability to motivate staff, unifying and creating good results
–Ambitious, focused, solution-oriented and decisive leadership of the Academy of Fine Art

It is expected that the applicant has or will acquire basic knowledge of Norwegian or a Scandinavian language within six months, as participation in the leadership group will be in a Scandinavian language. The administrative language at Oslo National Academy of the Arts is Norwegian.
The applicant must be prepared for organisational and work-related changes.

The fixed-term appointment is for four years and can be extended after a public announcement of the position. Altogether, the fixed-term appointments may not exceed 12 years.
The appointment authority is the board of KHiO.
The position as dean is remunerated according to government regulations, position code 1474, with salary level 76–86 (693200–923200 NOK). Two percent of the salary will be withdrawn and deposited in the Government Pension Fund.
