Astrid Handa-Gagnard is an art historian, curator and lecturer at the University of Burgundy. She was previously the general coordinator with Yan Pei-Ming. Astrid Handa-Gagnard has a course of polymorphic and engaged activities. She has authored several essays and articles on the subject of contemporary art and artists. As director of the FRAC Bourgogne since late 2012, she contributes to the enrichment of its collection and its openness to the public.
The lecture is part of an exchange launched in 2015 by SMU Meadows School of the Arts in partnership with École Nationale Supérieure d’Art (ENSA) in Dijon, France. Each year, an artist is selected from each institution to spend a six-week residency on exchange at the other, which includes studio and living spaces and an exhibition in each location. In 2015, the artists Hugo Capron and Melissa Tran were selected through a nomination process at each university, and the final selection was made by Astrid Handa-Gagnard. In 2016, the artists Alice Bidault and Andy Davis were selected by Gabriel Ritter, Curator of Contemporary Art at Minneapolis Institute of Art. The exhibition of works by Bidault and Davis was curated by Handa-Gagnard and opened recently at the FRAC Bourgogne.
