The Guggenheim Museum is pleased to announce its public programs presented in conjunction with the exhibition Tales of Our Time, which features newly commissioned works by Chia-En Jao, Kan Xuan, Sun Xun, Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Tsang Kin-Wah, Yangjiang Group, and Zhou Tao. Drawing attention to often-overlooked cultural and historical narratives, these artists explore concepts of geography and nation-state through storytelling. Evening public programs at the museum conclude with a reception and exhibition viewing. “A Three-Act Lecture on Art, Urbanism, and Literature”

This mini-symposium features diverse presentations on art, urbanism, literature, and their intersections by Cosmin Costinas, David Harvey, and Robin Visser, and a group conversation moderated by Howard French. The interdisciplinary makeup of these speakers facilitates new perspectives on art practice and sparks exchange with other fields and approaches.

Inaugurated in 2014, this lecture series is presented in conjunction with the three commissioned exhibitions of The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative at the Guggenheim. The series introduces the unique intellectual perspectives of each exhibition by bringing in the voices of curators, artists, scholars, historians, and critical thinkers.
ACAW FIELD MEETING Take 4: Thinking Practice

The Guggenheim hosts the first day of Asia Contemporary Art Week’s FIELD MEETING, a daylong forum with artists and arts professionals staging performances, lecture-performances, and discussions. On the occasion of Tales of Our Time, Xiaoyu Weng, The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Associate Curator of Chinese Art, engages photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani and artist Chia-En Jao for a special conversation on their shared concerns on sociopolitical issues surrounding migrant labor. Jao’s newly commissioned work is on view in the exhibition.

It is moderated by the Guggenheim’s creative director of publishing and digital media, Lisa Naftolin.
