The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University presents its sixth consecutive 3rd year MFA exhibition at Aqua Art Miami
The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University is pleased to announce its 3rd year MFA exhibition at the 12thedition of Aqua Art Miami from November 30 through December 4. As part of Miami Art Week, this is the sixth consecutive year for the School to showcase its 3rd year MFA candidates at Aqua. Known for its relaxed, yet energetic vibe, Aqua is a popular fair destination to discover contemporary art by young, emerging artists. The Welch MFA exhibition, located in room #212, joins nearly 50 gallery exhibitors from the US and abroad.
The exhibition provides MFA candidates with a unique opportunity to engage in an international art fair setting that spotlights their studio practice before a captive audience of curators, art media, gallerists, collectors and art enthusiasts alike. As a signature MFA program highlight (one of a handful of art schools to participate at art fairs, and the only school to do so for six consecutive years), the students benefit from a “real world experience” of networking and exhibition leads, as well as hands-on art fair management and sales. In tandem, the five-day art fair is also a seamless platform to promote the Georgia State MFA program and its benefits.
“The Aqua art fair demonstrates that our MFA students can not only hold their own in the larger international art arena, but can actually thrive,” says Graduate Director Craig Drennen.
The Aqua program will be documented with an exhibition catalog designed by MFA graphic designer Bryan Perry, including artist profiles contributed by MA Art History students, and a featured essay authored by an art world insider. This year’s invited guest writer is Sarah Workneh, Co-Director of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, who visited the Atlanta campus and conducted studio visits with the participating MFA candidates: Rachel Ballard / Larkin Ford / Joseph Hadden / Michelle Laxalt / Ben B. Lee / Tyler Mann / Elham Masoudi / John Prince / Kathleen Sharp
MA Art History writers include Genevieve Milliken, Ariana Yandel, Ceallsach Crouch, Cynthia Farnell, Samantha Long, Jill Jantosciak, Lauren Cantrell and Anna Dobbins.
