The faculty and visiting scholars who teach in the Master of Arts program in Museum Administration at St. John’s University offer expertise that spans the ancient world to the present day.
Program Director and Associate Professor of Art History Dr. Susan Rosenberg shares her experience as a curator of modern and contemporary art. She recently published the first monograph on artist/choreographer Trisha Brown, entitled Trisha Brown: Choreography as Visual Art (Wesleyan University Press, 2016). The book received the 2015 College Art Association’s Meiss/Mellon Author’s Book Award. She was invited to discuss the book this November as part of the MoMA PS1 Sunday Sessions series.
Assistant Professor of Art History Dr. Amy Gansell is a specialist in ancient Mesopotamian culture with deep experience in the field of Middle Eastern archeology. She regularly teaches a graduate course on cultural heritage preservation. Dr. Gansell recently received a Summer Stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for her research on “Feminine Beauty in the Neo-Assyrian Court at Nimrud,” and she is co-editor of the forthcoming anthology Testing the Canon of Ancient Near Eastern Art and Archaeology (Oxford University Press).
Our program also features professional adjunct faculty with experience in the field. Adrienne D’Angelo specializes in museums and digital culture in the 21st century and museum education. C. Oliver O’Donnell offers his expertise in the history, theory, and practice of the modern museum.
Students also benefit from the knowledge and experience of visiting scholars. This November, we welcomed Antonella Pinna, Director of Umbria’s Regional Network of Museums, Libraries and Archives, who shared her expertise in Roman and Medieval archaeology, museology, and cultural heritage preservation.
We are now accepting applications for the spring 2017 and fall 2017 semesters. Students seeking a graduate assistantship position that offers tuition remission and a stipend are strongly encouraged to apply by March 1, 2017.
