Momoka Aiso is a contemporary Japanese artist. Her major solo exhibitions include Shinjuku Ganka Gallery (Tokyo, 2015), Nao Nakamura Gallery (Tokyo, 2014). “Since the late 2000s, art works inspired by Otaku-culture led by pioneers such as Takashi Murakami (1962-) and Mr. (1969-) have been gaining popularity. This trend has the Japanese art scene with the emergence of Chaos*Lounge in 2008 following the challenges experienced by artist Tae Monma (1985-). Art inspired by Otaku-culture slightly weakened after the Tohoku Earthquake in 2011 but has since recovered and has paved the way for many new artists. Momoka Aiso is a distinctive artist among these followers as she strategically explores themes like ‘Anime’ and ‘characters’ as art, borrowing images from more commercialized form while being fully aware of the challenges of engaging Otaku-culture as art.” Bijutsu Techo, December 2016
